Facebook Might Actually Be Able To Help You Get A Job [INFOGRAPHIC]

December 13, 2011 by Reyas Mohammed Leave a Comment

It’s Facebook infographic time again, and the latest one covers the possibility that Facebook, Twitter and other online social networks might just be able to help you land your next job, believe it or not.

The infographic, which references places such as LinkedIn, CNN, JobSearch and MarketWire, comes up with some interesting numbers and conclusions, not least the one that says that 18.4 million Americans claim that Facebook is responsible for them being in their current job. 8 million believe the same about Twitter, while professional social network, LinkedIn, weighs in with 10.2 million saying they got their current role because of the network.

The fact that social networks are proving influential in the successful hunt for new jobs should perhaps not be as surprising as it may first seem. Being active on Facebook, Twitter and particularly LinkedIn as well as having an up-to-date and well thought out profile can often give the right signals to perspective employers. Showing that you can communicate well, as well as giving a place to show off your wares is one big benefit of online social networks.

It has been known for a while now that some recruiters will take to the internet in order to find out as much as possible about candidates before offering anyone a job. Obviously, having a potential employer trawling through your online proclamations may not always be a good thing, but it is a bit late to worry about that now!

With 16% of employees saying they found their current job through some form of social media, the likes of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are now proving more useful for job-hunters than career fairs (14%) and recruitment agencies (13).
